Dem Bones

Last year when my doctor ordered a bone density scan, I was afraid they might come back with a report that my bones were completely textbook parsimonious. My late husband was such a generous and giving soul. He didn't have a parsimonious bone in his body. In fact I think that's what pushed me in the direction of pinny-pinching and saving - or maybe it was my parent,s who had grown up in the depression when everything was precious and to be saved, reused, or re-purposed. If that weren't bad enough, my father was Scots and my mother was French and well, you know their reputation.
Yesterday when I was re-potting some paperwhites I'm forcing for Christmas, I got out a zippy bag of glass pebbles to put around them. I started to put the baggy back in the cupboard, and I thought, "Whoa, it's only a zippy, you don't need to clutter up a shelf with something you may will never need again." It made me think of all the little bits and bobs I have stored for years - "just in case I need them". What foolishness. Maybe that makes me a Jr. Hoarder. I don't know, but I think it is time to stop this silliness.

So, dear bloggers, my question to you is, do you save every little thing or do you discard easily?

Oh, I save most things and feel guilty when I do throw anything away, whether baggies or twist ties or cardboard boxes. I've got the Scottish ancestry plus my mother who literally keeps everything.

Your post made me smile. because---i have a habit of saving the "twist ties" from breadwrappers (you never know when you may need one.) --and I just recently quit saving coffee cans (how many coffee cans do we reallllly need?) Have a great week!

It's a hard habit to give up. I save way too many things that I'll never use. The problem is that, when I throw something away, a month later I need it. That's why I save so much junk. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. I need to get some paperwhites started. Thanks for the reminder. laurie

Well, I do save a lot because I am so sentimental but at the same time I LOVE to throw stuff out because it makes me feel so good! I go in spurts I suppose.

Your comment on the costume really made me laugh! Thank you so much for faithfully commenting!

Oh my goodness I suppose it's a good thing I haven't been turned in to the Hoarders TV show because I save almost everything in the fear that I'll someday need it somehow....And it is silly because too much stuff becomes a burden pretty quickly. I do try to be cognizant of what I might be putting in a landfill.....Well there's my excuse!....Yeppers that's it.....I'm green! *winks* Thank you Priscilla for giving me your opion on my floors. I need all the help I can get. Vanna
