DIY

Today was project day. We have had several small projects waiting. Since we were snowed in again we decided it was  a good time to get busy and get these things out of the way.

First, I put up a new shelf over my stove. I'll place dinner plates there to warm while cooking. It will be a great place to set a finished dish to keep warm while while the others finish cooking. I bought it at Ikea. It was pretty  easy to put up. I had bought some screws that had plastic jackets, but Scott, my son-in-law said I needed those exploding ones. I took the first set back to Home Depot and got special ones for drywall. I marked the wall and used the electric screw driver (which was a gift from Leland and Pat) to attach it. Next, I hammered in dressmaker pins for the horse brasses. I have used pins for nails for years. It sounds funny, but you'd be surprised how much weight they will carry.

We had purchased smaller bolts/screws to use with a curtain rod I bought for the newdrapes. We found these brand new, beautiful brown silk drapes from Pottery Barn at a garage sale. The new lampshade works so well with them. The brown piping matches perfectly. I'm so happy with the results.
Now I can sit back and enjoy looking at the pretty scene. The snow has stopped and is melting but there is still some on the porch.

2009 - The year of the ox
THE OX

Low and steady marks the ox’s character. Bona fide leaders, they are grounded, determined and highly dependable. They have the ability to motivate and inspire confidence in others as well. Those born under the sign are meticulous, systematic and real sticklers for details. They can be straight-laced and prefer routine, aiming to trash things out in a methodical manner till it bears fruit. Simplicity and straightforwardness govern their personality. However, the ox has a temper and it’s wise to get out of its way when it rears it horns. It is also a signs that it’s overly proud, refusing to seek assistance. The ox chooses to depend on its head to reason things and finds it hard to tolerate the week. Chauvinistic and even tyrannical, the ox is often grumpy, bigoted and refuses to forgive of forget for that matter.

The date of the Chinese New Year is determined by the Chinese calendar, a lunisolar calendar. The same calendar is used in countries that have adopted the Confucian and Buddhism tradition and in many cultures influenced by the Chinese. Chinese New Year starts on the first day of the new year containing a new moon (some sources even include New Year's Eve) and ends on the Lantern Festival fourteen days later. This occurs around the time of the full moon as each lunation is about 29.53 days in duration. In the Gregorian calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on different dates each year, on a date between January 21 and February 21.

 Polly's new Blackberry
wait...
not that kind

this is the one!
Polly's phone, which she uses for e-mail was not performing properly as of late. She couldn't get a signal anymore. Her phone, sitting next to mine would have one, or even no bars - and mine would be full bars. So she whined at the T-mobile people and they sent her a new phone.
On her new phone she can get all features of internet. When you think about it it is quite amazing that you can be connected to the internet and have all the knowledge of the world at your fingertips - Anywhere
Remember when we thought old Dick was just fiction?  Now here is t is in real life - today!
It is only $6 more a month, but  she will save on sms charges. Her overseas sms's are 15¢ extra. So in the end she will save money. Yea!

POÄNG

Polly has wanted a Poang chair from Ikea since she moved back from Switzerland. She loved hers and other people's. Last week she found one at the Goodwill store - for $10!!!!
We drove out to Ikea and bought a new black pad (and  had meatballs). She will get a matching footstool when she can afford it. Take my word for it, the chair is really comfortable.
